Mohammad Anwar released on bail in London
LONDON: MQM leader Mohammad Anwar was released on 'police bail' by Metropolitan Police on Wednesday evening. He had been arrested in connection with an ongoing money laundering investigation in London.

The police searched his residence in Northwest London for 17 hours. Anwar has moved back in his residence with the family after the conclusion of search.

Mohammad Anwar a senior member and leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement had been arrested by the Metropolitan police from his residence in North West London on Wednesday morning.

The Metropolitan Police had announced the arrest of a 64-year-old man from northwest London on suspicion of money laundering, but did not reveal the name in line with procedure.

They said the suspect was arrested from a residential address in northwest London, and that he was currently being interrogated.

Officers from the Counter Terrorism Command carried out a search at the Northwest London address, they said.

The MQM however had confirmed to Geo News that the 64-year-old man arrested was senior leader Mohammad Anwar, who is one of the senior most members of the party and a member of its central coordination committee.


Note: According to the Metropolitan Police in UK, 'police bail' is the term used when a person arrested in connection with a criminal offence is released from police custody whilst the police investigation continues until they are next required to appear at a police station. When a person is released on police bail they are required to return to the police station at a specific date and time.
