Senator Rafique Rajwana appointed Governor Punjab

Rajwana who hails from Southern Punjab is a member of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was elected to the Senate on a general seat in 2012. His tenure as a Senator was set to expire in March 2018.
The newly appointed governor said he would try to live up to expectations.
Rajwana will replace Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar who resigned from the post in January citing bad governance on the part of the PML-N. Following his resignation Sarwar joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Profile
Rafique Rajwana was born on 20 February 1949 in Multan. Following his graduation from Government Degree College Multan he joined FC College Lahore and earned a Master’s Degree in Economics.
Mr Rajwana has a Bachelor’s degree in Law and Jurisprudence from the Gilani Law College in Multan. He worked in the legal profession resigning from the judiciary as Additional District and Session judge prior to joining politics. Rafique Rajwana had also served as the President of the Lahore High Court Bar Association Multan in 1996-97.
Known as a PML-N loyalist, Rafique Rajwana has served on numerous party posts including Senior Vice President PML-N Punjab and Vice President of PML-N Lawyers Wing. He has also acted as the legal counsel for party leaders such as Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and others.
Rafqiue Rajwana was first elected to the Senate in January, 1998 and his term expired on March, 2003. He was elected again in March, 2012 and his tenure was scheduled to expire on March, 2018.
