Electioneering ends for KP local bodies polls
PESHAWAR: The time for sloganeering and rallies ended Friday as election campaigning concluded for local bodies (LB) polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa scheduled for May 30.

Arrangements were in their final phase for the local government polls, one of the largest electoral exercises in the province with 84,420 candidates vying for a total of 41,762 seats.

According to the schedule issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan, polling will start at 8:00AM on Saturday and will continue uninterrupted until 5:00PM.

The counting of votes will commence after polling ends, while Returning Officers will declare final official results by June 7.

A province-wide public holiday has been announced for Friday and Saturday.



KP health facilities to remain open during polls

On the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Shahram Khan Tarakai, emergency has been declared in all the public sector hospitals including tertiary care hospitals, district headquarters hospitals, Rural Health Centres and basic health units of the province.

The emergency commenced from 8:00AM today and will continue until the end of the local government elections process. The decision was taken in view of the prevailing law and order situation. A circular issued from the office of Director General Health Services said all the heads of public hospitals and medical institutions have been directed to keep the health facilities opened on election days.



Seven police teams formed to keep eye on security

On Thursday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IGP Nasir Khan Durrani constituted seven vigilance teams of high ranking police officers for the security of the local bodies election process tomorrow in the province.

An official communiqué said that the vigilance teams would visit the districts to review the arrangements for the elections. It said that the vigilance teams in light of the visits would also suggest improvement in security steps in consultation with respective regional police officers (RPOs) and district police officers (DPOs).
