‘Politically victimised’ PPP seeks explanations on NAP
ISLAMABAD: Hours after former president of Pakistan and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari directed to launch a strong protest against arrests of the party leaders, the party on Thursday sought ‘explanations’ on ongoing National Action Plan (NAP).

Speaking at a press conference, PPP Vice-President Senator Sherry Rehman asked what message was being given by carrying out actions against her party’s leaders in the garb of NAP.

“How can laws formulated against terrorists be applied on national politicians?” the PPP leader questioned. She demanded to put into practice the law used for ‘white-collar crimes’ against her party leaders instead.

Rehman said non-bailable arrest warrants were being issued against the PPP leaders. “It seems as if the party was being targeted in vengeance,” she added.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) could only see as far as the PPP at the moment, said Senator Rehman.

“The Pakistan People’s Party has been fighting against terrorism...How it can be implicated for facilitating the terrorists.”

Speaking on the occasion, senior PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira vowed to raise the matter on constitutional forums.

“We will defend the sanctity of Pakistan,” he said. “We will bear all sort of allegations but not the allegation of terrorism,” he added.
