Blasts, firing heard near private uni in Karachi’s Pehlwan Goth
KARACHI: Loud explosions and gun fire have been heard near a private university located near Pehlwan Goth and Gulistan-e-Jauhar neighbourhoods here on Monday night.

Initial reports suggest that heavy contingents of police and Rangers paramilitary force have reached at the site and surrounded the university.

They have also launched a search operation in an empty plot behind the university after cordoning off the area.

Sibtain Naqvi, the Public Relation Officer of Habib University, however, has said that the incident took place outside the university and denied reports of any suspected terrorists being present inside the premises of the university.

Naqvi said that no students were present in the university at the time of the incident, which he said took place about half-kilometer away from the educational institution.

SSP Gulshan-e-Iqbal Abid Qaimkhani said that two people received minor injuries in a cracker blast near the university. They have been shifted to a nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, DIG East Munir Sheikh said that a mortar landed in the tennis court of the university, a claim denied by the PRO Habib University.

SSP East Javed Jaskani later said the injured were two university guards, who received injuries when two crackers were hurled inside the campus from backside.
