Imran alleges PM earned $60m in business with India

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday claimed that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has earned $60 million from his business with India including setting up of two new sugar mills.

Addressing a press conference today in Lahore, Khan said that according to Wikipedia, Nawaz Sharif is ranked as the third richest in Pakistan but still is not listed under the top 10,000 tax payers in Pakistan.

He further said that, “According to Raymond Baker in his book Capitalism's Achilles heel, the author states that Nawaz Sharif made $60 million on sugar deals with India.”

The PTI chief went on to say that PM Nawaz’s own steel mill has been profitable and works perfectly, but Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) is not improved.

“Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is also in loss, whereas Air Blue which is owned by Khaqan Abbasi, while increasing cost twice, is profitable.

Hitting out at Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif as well, Khan questioned what is the purpose of Shahbaz’s visits to China and how is it that other CMs do not make such trips abroad.

The PTI chairman alleged that the Sharif brothers spend all their money made from foreign businesses on elections and win them, in turn making more money after winning elections.

PM’s spokesman terms Imran’s allegations baseless

Following Imran Khan’s press conference, spokesman of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that Imran Khan's allegation that the PM earned $60 million in business with India is untrue and baseless.

In a statement, the spokesperson also rejected Khan’s allegation that the Sharif family set up two new sugar mills.

He added that the Sharif family reserves its right of legal action against Khan on levelling these allegations.
