COAS calls on PM Sharif, discusses internal and border security situation

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday and discussed matters relating to the country's internal and border security.
According to sources, the prime minister and the army chief also discussed the prevailing situation in neighbouring Afghanistan and its possible effects on Pakistan. The sources said that the recent rise in Taliban attacks in the neighbouring country was also discussed during the key meeting.
The army chief also apprised the prime minister about the Corps Commanders conference held in Rawalpindi on Thursday. Sources said Gen Raheel Sharif informed the premier about the key points discussed and agreed upon during the conference to enhance Pakistan's security.
Discussion also took place over the PM Sharif's upcoming visit to Washington where he will hold meetings with President Barack Obama and other top US officials.
