Pillion-riding to be banned as Sindh govt finalises Muharram security plan
KARACHI: The Sindh government on Monday decided to ban pillion-riding on Muharram 8 till 10 while Islamabad will be asked to suspend mobile phone services throughout the province on Ashura (10th Muharram).

The decision was taken at a security meeting headed by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah to review law and order situation in the wake of the holy month of Muharram – likely to commence by the weekend.

The meeting was briefed that there was a threat of a likely backlash from banned sectarian outfits after the assassinations of Lashkar-e-Jahngvi head Malik Ishaq and Usman Kurd.

The meeting was also told that proscribed organisations were operating with changed names.

The chief minister urged the intelligence agencies to raise the bar as Muharram will coincide with upcoming local bodies elections in the province.
