NA session on Wednesday; important issues on agenda
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zradari has summoned National Assembly to meet at Parliament House Thursday evening. It will be 41st session of the lower House and the first one after commencement of fifth parliamentary year of the Parliament (Majlas-e-Shura).

Besides routine business the House is expected to take up issues of national importance. Question Hour, Calling Attention Notices, adjournment and privilege motions as well as legislation will comprise the routine agenda for the session.

But, more important will be debate on Presidential address to joint sitting of the Parliament while opposition parties may be seeking update on implementation of the recommendations of Parliamentary Committee on National Security regarding revisiting Pakistan's relation with the United States and Nato.

These recommendations were passed by the joint sitting of the Parliament in the form of a resolution.

Moreover, overall law and order situation, killings in Balochistan and recent Bhoja plane crash near Benazir International Airport may also come under discussion.

Usually the sessions of National Assembly and the Senate are summoned soon after the start of new parliamentary year and the Presidential address to the joint sitting. But, due to urgency of foreign policy issues and Pakistan's relations with US and Nato, another joint sitting had to be convened on March 20.

This session can also be important in view of decision in contempt of court case by the Supreme Court against the Prime Minister to be announced on Thursday.

In the prevailing situation and upcoming important events, the session will bear unusual importance to set the future political course.

The opposition parties are expected to move motions on issues like target killing and tragic incident of plane crash.

As the finance minister has stated to present next fiscal's budget in last week of May, it is expected that the parties in the House will be urging the government to have their valid input for incorporation in the annual budget. (APP)
