Prepaid sims not being blocked immediately: sources

ISLAMABAD: Prepaid sims are not being blocked immediately across the country, interior ministry sources told Geo news.

According to the sources, a meeting will be held next week to discuss the prepaid phone sims issue. All stakeholders will attend the meeting.

The meeting will decide whether to block the sims step by step or to regularise them, the sources added.

On Chand Raat and during Eid prayers the government had decided to suspend mobile phone services in Lahore, Karachi, Multan and Quetta due to terror threats.

On Tuesday, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the government was considering shutting prepaid mobile sims issued on fake documents as they were used in terrorist attacks.

80% of all mobile phone sims are prepaid accounts and according to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority approximately 2 million of these sims are based on fake documents.
