Govt to submit reply in treason case against Musharraf

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan will resume hearing into five identical petitions, seeking prosecution of former president Pervez Musharraf for abrogating the Constitution, Geo News reported.

Attorney General (AGP) of Pakistan Irfan Qadir was directed by a division bench of the apex court comprising Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain to explain if the Article 6 of the Constitution applied to former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf for high treason and come up with a reply of the federal government in writing in the instant matter through a concise statement by April 17.

Sources said that though consultation between the AG and the law ministry took place, no decision could be taken over their difference of opinion.

The AG would appear before the court to file the federal government's reply. Pervez Musharraf has also formed his legal team for his defence.
