Sacred Games actor Kubra Sait has spoken in defence of co-star Nawazuddin Siddiqui after former Miss India Niharika Singh accused him of sexual harassment.

Niharika alleged that the Manto star, who she dated in 2009, forced herself on her at her apartment one day. “One morning, when I was home and he had been shooting all night, Nowaz sent me a text saying he was near my building. I invited him over and asked him to come and have breakfast with me. When I opened the door, he grabbed me. I tried to push him away but he wouldn’t let go. After a little coercion, I finally gave in. I wasn’t sure what to make of this relationship,” she wrote.

The former Miss India claimed she ended the relationship after she found out that the actor would frequently lie to her.

However, Sait took to Twitter over the weekend to defend her co-star and said, "A relationship gone sour isn’t #MeToo, someone needs to recognise the toxic difference before we go picking sides. I stand by #NawazuddinSiddiqui or #Nowaz as a man."

"I stand by the fact that although Niharika Singh may have had a tough time in the industry, categorising her once personal relationship as a #MeToo statement is incorrectly placed. We as humans are flawed. That isn’t gender specific," she added.

The year-old #MeToo movement gathered momentum in India after Bollywood actress Tanushree Dutta accused well-known actor Nana Patekar of inappropriate behaviour on a film set 10 years ago.
