ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will soon announce measures for the formation of a South Punjab, Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar told Geo News’ Hamid Mir in an informal conversation on Monday.

Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar said Prime Minister Imran Khan would form a committee comprising allies and members of the opposition to oversee matters pertaining to the formation of a South Punjab province.

The chief minister added that Prime Minister Khan during his election campaign had promised the formation of a South Punjab province and was taking measures for this.

The chief minister further said before the 100 days of the government end, Prime Minister Imran Khan will announce some important measures for the formation of the South Punjab province.

According to Chief Minister Buzdar, the provincial cabinet would meet in South Punjab once a month, while development projects for the region would also be launched.

Federal Minister from the PML-Q Tariq Bashir Cheema during his appearance on Capital Talk said he was opposed to the structure of the South Punjab province and would convey his reservations to Prime Minister Imran Khan. Cheema stressed that he was not opposed to the formation of a South Punjab province, rather opposed to the inclusion of Bahawalpur in it.

“I will meet the prime minister and take his old speeches in which he spoke in favour of a Bahawalpur province…The PPP, PML-N and other parties in the Punjab Assembly had previously passed resolutions for the formation of a Bahawalpur province and South Punjab province.”
