Lahore Qalandars aim to empower women through cricket

KARACHI: With an aim to empower women through sports and support Pakistan’s female athlete, the PSL franchise Lahore Qalandars’ has joined the elite “Male Champions of Change” institute.

Qalandars’ chief operating officer, Sameen Rana, formally joined the group on Wednesday as its 10th member in Pakistan. The group already has CEOs and heads of various corporate of the country who are working for women empowerment in Pakistan.

According to the official website of Male Champions of Change, the Male Champions of Change (MCC) Institute works with influential leaders to redefine men’s role in taking action on gender inequality. It activates peer groups of influential male leaders, supports them to step up beside women, and drives the adoption of actions across the private sector and government.

The first MCC peer group, the Founding Group, began in 2010 with 8 Australian leaders and has since grown to a group of 30 CEOs, Board Directors, Government Department, University and Military leaders. New groups are forming across different organizations, sectors and geographies.

Following Lahore Qalandars’ inclusion in the group, it is expected that the franchise would soon announce programs for female cricketers in Pakistan.

Sameen Rana, the COO of Lahore Qalandars, said that he feels honoured to be part of this fantastic group.

Talking to Geo.tv, Sameen said that Qalandars will soon launch a program for women cricket in partnership with MCC.

“Lahore Qalandars is going to work for the empowerment of women thru sports. Huge exciting plans are in discussions, we will announce this in first week of February,” Rana told geo.tv

“It is going to be something like player development program by Lahore Qalandars. We will empower women thru Cricket,” he added.
