SHARJAH: Australian leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed on Tuesday shared his excitement at the return of international cricket to his birth country, Pakistan, and said he is looking forward to playing Pakistan Super League matches in Karachi and Lahore.

Fawad, a naturalised Australian citizen who was born in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, told Geo he is happy to be a part of PSL and will try his best to take Quetta Gladiators to the finals.

“I’m very happy to be here. It’s an opportunity for me to perform outside Australia and I’m very thankful to Quetta Gladiators for picking me. I’ll try my best to perform. I’m working hard every day, in every game,” he said.

Praising the fast bowling talent he has witnessed in the ongoing PSL, the 37-year old leggie termed Pakistan a hotbed for young talent.

“PSL has some very good fast bowlers. Pakistan is a huge country, plus [there are] four overseas cricketers too in every team.”

Fawad said he would try to convince his fellow Aussie cricketers to visit Pakistan for the final leg of the tournament.

“I’ll try my best. Hopefully everyone will come. I’m happy that cricket is coming back to Pakistan. Not just cricket… I’d like to see all sports return here. It’s a healthy sign for any country. The youth will come and watch their favourite stars in action, and will go on to represent Pakistan in future. Hopefully we will see more PSL matches in Pakistan in future.”
