PESHAWAR: As many as 21,000 fake student enrolments from six Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts were detected by the provincial authorities, confirmed education minister Ziaullah Bangash.

The fake enrolment was held under the Elementary and Secondary Education Foundation's programme.

Under Iqra Farogh-e-Taleem Voucher Scheme (IFTVS), the provincial government was funding millions of rupees to the “fake” students as well as the “ghost” schools from public kitty without conducting any audit.

The programme launched in 2017 enrolled 41,000 students according to the official documents, but later it was found out that as many 21,000 students among them were 'ghost students'.

It was revealed that in the Mansehra district 70 schools were only on paper while millions of rupees were received by local groups and individuals on their names.
