The filmmaker has filed a defamation suit against Jami on March 9 for alluding him to be a ‘sexual predator’.

Filmmaker Sohail Javed on February 18 sent a legal notice to director Jami on his Facebook post from February 2 – where he shared a letter by a survivor of sexual assault by a television commercial director – the suit said that Jami alluded to Javed by referring to him as ‘divorced’, ‘panelist at a festival in Hyderabad’ and cancer survivor among others.

The suit was filed after Javed’s lawyer said that Jami failed to “tender an unconditional apology” and delete the post. Reportedly the counsel have asked for Rs500 million for damages and Rs500 million for their client’s “mental torture”.

The legal notice was labeled as an attempt to intimidate, harass, subdue and stifle individuals who fight for the survivors of sexual abuse. Jami has asked Javed to withdraw the legal notice within seven days.
