ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau’s Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has decided to run an inquiry into the alleged suicide of Brigadier (retd) Asad Munir, who was under inquiry by the probe body.

According to the notification today, the Chairman NAB will personally oversee the inquiry.

To fulfill the legal formalities, the chairman has summoned all the record related to the deceased to Rawalpindi.

Munir's body was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his apartment in Islamabad's diplomatic enclave, the police sources said. He was also a former intelligence operative.

Asad Munir was upset over media reports that ran a day earlier stating that the NAB during its executive board meeting had granted approval for the filing of a reference against him, family sources said. NAB had accused Munir of misusing his authority and restoring a plot in F-11 area of the federal capital.

The family of the deceased requested not to perform an autopsy of the body. The family's request was accepted by the Islamabad deputy commissioner and subsequently the body was returned upon the completion of legal formalities.
