Karachi's #FixIt campaigner Alamgir Khan released on bail

KARACHI: Social activist Alamgir Khan was released on bail on Friday, a day after he was arrested while trying to stage a unique protest outside the Sindh Chief Minister’s House here in Karachi.

Khan and his driver, riding a tractor pulling a trolley loaded with trash collected from parts of the city, tried to make their way to the CM House on Thursday when they were intercepted and taken into custody by the policemen standing guard outside the fortified residence of Sindh CM Qaim Ali Shah.

An FIR was registered against them at the Civil Lines police station on the government's complaint.

The two were presented in the court of the Judicial Magistrate South today where their bail application was accepted on the payment of Rs 5,000 bail bonds each.

“These minor cases will not deter me from my mission,” said Khan, speaking to reporters outside the courthouse.

Khan’s #FixIt campaign to cover open manholes across the city went viral on social media when he shared videos of himself painting sketches of Sindh Chief Minister with the words 'Fix It!' on open potholes around the city. The videos went viral as thousands of people shared them online.

He is a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf activist and former office-bearer but claims his campaign for cleanliness and sanitation in Karachi is not politically motivated.
