ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Umar said Tuesday that party chairman Imran Khan will not appear at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on November 2 for the hearing of a reference seeking his disqualification.

Speaking to Geo News on the program Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada ke Sath, Umar said Khan will be busy in the party's sit-in in Islamabad.

"As you know, Imran Khan has invited Pakistan to Islamabad on November 2. He will be busy with the demonstration, so he will not be able to attend the ECP hearing on the same day," Asad Umar said.

The Election Commission has reportedly issued notices to the PTI chairman to appear on November 2 and submit a reply, otherwise the Commission would take a decision on the reference.

The ECP has consolidated the disqualification reference with a petition regarding alleged filing of incorrect certificate in respect of party funds.

The petitioner argues that Imran Khan does not fulfil Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

The petitioner Hashim Ali Bhuta argues that Imran Khan had lied to the ECP and between 2001 and 2013 $2,992,000 were received by the party as foreign funds.

The petition adds that Imran Khan had said he never received any funds from a foreign country and therefore he did not meet the requirements laid down by Article 62 and 63.
