Careem uses modern technology, respects traffic laws, SHC told

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) resumed hearing a petition filed against the the ride-hailing service Careem on Thursday.

During the proceedings, the Ministry of Transport told the SHC that the provincial government has given Uber and Careem a month-long period to fulfill the legal requirements. In this regard, the Ministry of Transport had taken action and the taxi services have been issued letters.

On the other hand, a representative of the traffic police explained that they are monitoring the taxi service companies. However, more time is required to submit the final reply.

During the hearing on Thursday, a lawyer representing Careem said that the company is making use of modern information technology, and respects the government and traffic rules.

The hearing has been adjourned until March 7, 2017 and the defendants have been told to submit their final replies.
