PCB likely to charge Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif over PSL spot-fixing today

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board is likely to hand over charge sheet to suspended players Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif today.

According to sources, both the players have been issued a demand notice over alleged spot-fixing during the Pakistan Super League.

Under this demand notice, information from both the players is being gathered including their contact details.

The next plan of action will be decided based on questions asked in the demand notice, the sources said.

The Islamabad United batsmen Sharjeel and Latif, were presented before the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) on Wednesday, where their statements were recorded.

PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan told the media yesterday that the two players will be given 10-15 days to prepare their defense.

The PCB chairman vowed to hand out the strictest punishment possible to the players involved in fixing during the Pakistan Super League.

“There will be no leniency for the players found involved in fixing. We will give them maximum punishment which will serve as an example to all,” he said.

The second edition of the Pakistan Super League was hit by a corruption scandal last week, when the PCB provisionally suspended Latif and Sharjeel on Friday for their suspected links to an international fixing syndicate looking to corrupt Pakistan’s T20 tournament.

The two players were sent home the same day. The PCB earlier this week also suspended former batsman Nasir Jamshed over his “important” role in the fixing scandal, the board said.
