PSL spot-fixing: Tribunal issues notices to Sharjeel, Khalid for hearing

KARACHI: A three members Anti-Corruption Tribunal, headed by Justice (Retd) Asghar Haidar, tasked with adjudicating the spot-fixing matter have issued notices to PCB, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif for holding the preliminary hearing on Friday.

The tribunal, which also includes former chairman PCB Lieutenant General (Retd) Tauqir Zia and former Test cricketer Wasim Bari, will hear the preliminary hearing of the case at National Cricket Academy.

The tribunal was constituted after the two players, Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan, formally informed PCB that they seek to contest charges levelled against them.

An official of PCB confirmed that as per the prescribed procedure the tribunal, at the preliminary hearing, will decide the timeline of future dates of hearing.

“At the preliminary hearing the tribunal in consultation with legal representatives of PCB and players will decide when the PCB is to submit an opening brief detailing the claims against the two players along with the evidence to be relied on; the date by which the players must respond/reply to the PCB’s opening brief; and the date of the final full hearing,” said the spokesman of PCB.

“It is important to reiterate that the PCB Anti-Corruption Unit or Legal Department cannot make public any evidence or material as under the Code the proceedings are confidential,” the spokesman added.

The two players, Sharjeel khan and Khalid Latif, were suspended by PCB during the second edition of Pakistan Super League after an initial inquiry by the board’s inquiry committee into an alleged attempt by an international syndicate to corrupt the PSL.
