MQM refuses to respond to Dr Saghir’s presser, Nusrat terms it ‘soap opera’

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday refused to respond to a press conference by former Sindh minister Dr Saghir Ahmed but one of its spokesmen, Ameen-ul-Haq likened it to the ‘multiples of zero are all zero.’

Deputy convener of London Rabita Committee, however, took it to social media and termed today’s episode as ‘new TV drama serial’ (soap opera).

“Well, this is THE real purpose of this new TV drama serial: mask your failure by blaming MQM for everything,” he said in response to another tweet which said: “For TV channels and establishment Mustapha Kamal is more imp than killing of 18 innocent people in Charssada.”

Another prominent MQM leader Wasay Jalil called the press conference ‘Monday ka manjan’.

Calling Mustafa Kamal’s new party as ‘Haqiqi Two’, Jalil in a tweet said that people were watching the same drama and the same script which was witnessed in 1992.

Another MQM leader Ali Raza Abidi said on Twitter that those unable to “remain loyal to a party after being part of it for three decades” were presenting themselves before people to represent them.

He also mocked Dr Saghir, Kamal and Qaimkhani by asking: "Will Larry, Curly and Moe contest the upcoming bye-elections?"

Former provincial health minister and MQM leader Dr Saghir had announced that he was joining former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal and Anees Qaimkani to "play his role for the progress of Pakistan".

“I have come here so that, shoulder to shoulder with Mustafa Kamal and Anees Qaimkhani, I play my part for the progress of Pakistan. So that Karachi, the lifeline of Pakistan, comes back on the path of development,” he said.

“I want to play a positive role which Pakistan requires, which can help Pakistan prosper and defeat enemies of Pakistan."

Dr Saghir was addressing a press conference here alongside Kamal and Qaimkhani, who had recently announced a new, yet unnamed party in a direct challenge to the MQM in Karachi.
