Trees in Karachi cut to make room for more signboards

KARACHI: Citizens were deprived of shade in this blistering summer when several trees were cut down late Wednesday night at the city’s main thoroughfare Shahra-e-Faisal.

The trees were cut down to make room for signboards that are an eyesore for pedestrians and commuters alike, a Geo News reporter said.

The signboard mafia worked under the patronage of the area police and city administration, he added.

Activist Alamgir Khan of Fix-it fame demanded that the chief minister take notice of the incident and launch an inquiry.

Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah telephoned Karachi administration and asked him to arrest the culprits, the CM house spokesperson said.
