PM Nawaz signs Erdogan daughter’s marriage document as witness

ISLAMABAD: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's daughter Sumeyye Erdogan married Turkish businessman Ozdemir Bayraktar’s son Selcuk Bayraktar at a ceremony in Istanbul on Saturday.

A few world leaders who are known personal friends of father of the bride including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif were also present on the occasion.

Some members of the family of the prime minister including First Lady Begum Kulsoom Nawaz and daughter of the premier Maryam Nawaz Sharif also attended the ceremony.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif signed the wedding document as a witness. He was called with request to put his signature for the purpose by the Mayor of Istanbul at the beginning of the function.

Those attending the wedding included political leaders, former prime ministers and presidents, senior figures from Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party.

The wedding at the Kucukcekmece Yahya Kemal Beyatli venue was conducted by Istanbul’s Mayor Kadir Topbas.

Witnesses included former President of Turkey, Abdullah Gul; Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu; Parliament Speaker Ismail Kahraman; Chief of the Turkish General Staff Gen Hulusi Akar; member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovic; former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri; and Albanian Premier Edi Rama.

Turkish media has reported that ministers, ambassadors, mayors, artists and businessmen, plus a great number of other guests, also attended. 

Intense security measures were taken by police before and around the ceremony.—Originally published in The News
