Angelina Jolie becomes visiting professor at LSE

Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie will be taking a course on the impact of war on women at the London School of Economics.

Jolie has been appointed as visitng faculty for the university’s MSc programme.

The actress will join former British foreign secretary William Haque as a “professor in practice” in 2017, the university announced on Monday, as part of a new course on women, peace and security.

The course, it says, is intended to “[develop] strategies to promote gender equality and enhance women’s economic, social and political participation and security”, the LSE said on its website.

“It is vital we broaden the discussion on how to advance women’s rights and end impunity for crimes that disproportionately affect women, such as sexual violence in conflict,” said Jolie, the Guardian reported.

“I am looking forward to teaching and to learning from the students, as well as to sharing my own experiences of working alongside governments and United Nations,” she said.

Jolie became a goodwill ambassador for UNHCR in 2001 and is now a special envoy.

Students can apply for the course this autumn.
