PM’s performance satisfies 54pc; 68pc term PM resignation demand unfair: Gallup Pakistan Survey

KARACHI: As the opposition is flexing its muscles to garner public support on Panama leak investigation Pakistani people are seeing things little differently, who, though partially support the Opposition demand  of beginning investigation with the Prime Minister but see the duplicity in PTI Chief stance when he demands his resignation. Half of the people surveyed are also satisfied with the PM’s performance.

This was revealed in Gallup Pakistan recent survey, which was carried out among a sample of 1707 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during May 30– June 06, 2016. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 percent at 95% confidence level.

Panama Leaks

In the survey, when people were asked to reflect their views on different issues related to Panama leak, they minced no word and spoke out clearly how they want things to be.

The survey started with the question related to opposition’s important demand in which they want Panama leaks investigation to begin with PM Nawaz Sharif. 50% of the respondent rejected the idea and said that the investigation should be held together for all the people mentioned in Panama Papers. But 48% supported the demand and were of the view that the investigation should begin with the Prime Minister.

People’s opinion was also requested on the views in which some people believed that it is dishonest of Imran Khan to ask for the PM’s resignation when he, himself, has not yet declared his off-shore companies.

Responding to this 68% of the people agreed that it is dishonest of Imran Khan to ask for PM Nawaz Sharif’s resignation, while 29%believed that it is not the case and his demand is legitimate. 3% claimed they did not know about the issue.



Further, people were asked to suggest whether Imran Khan’s stance is justified, in which he claimed that he had the right to form offshore companies as he was not a British citizen.

Responding to this 62%people said that Imran Khan’s stance is not justified while 36% said it is justified. 2% didn’t respond to the query.

In the survey people were also asked that according to them which party owns the highest number of off-shore companies?

 Responding to this 42%claimed that the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PMLN) has the most off-shore companies, 18% claimed that it was the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and 15% believed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) owns most of the offshore companies. 8%named MQM and the PML-Q, as most off shore companies holder while 2% believed that it was the MMA who owns the most offshore companies. 7% did not respond to this question.

Pakistani people were also asked that some people are of the view that it is legal to form off-shore companies in some foreign countries, so the owner of these companies should not be punished in Pakistan.? 

Responding to this overwhelmingly, 76%claimed that the owners of off-shore companies should be punished in the country while 21%claimed that they should not be punished in Pakistan. 3% claimed didn’t respond to the question.

PM’s Performance

In the survey people were also asked to evaluate Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif performance and how much they are satisfied with it?

Responding to this 54percent said they are quite satisfied with the Prime Ministers’ performance. Of the 54 percent, 21 percent said they are very satisfied while 33% claimed they are satisfied to some extent.

In contrast, 16% of the people surveyed said they are very much dissatisfied with the PM’s performance, while 15%said they are dissatisfied with the Prime Ministers’ performance to some extent.
However, 15% of the respondent said they are neither satisfied nor dissatisfied.

Democracy vs Dictatorship

In the survey, people were also asked to choose from these two forms of government. Democracy or Dictatorship?

Responding to this, the majority of the people, 84%believe that democracy is a better alternative to dictatorship, while 16%people hold the opinion that dictatorship is a better option.


Jahangir Tareen Loans

Gallup Pakistan survey also asked people, whether they believed that PTI leader Jahangir Tarin had his loans waived off from various banks as claimed by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz?

Replying to this 38%people said they think the claim is ‘very true’, while 40% believed it was ‘true to some extent’. 9 % of the people in the survey said the PML (N) claim is very false. While 10% said that the claim is false to some extent. 3 % didn’t reply to this question

It was further asked, if the allegation on Mr. Jahangir Tarin is true, do they think there should be an investigation regarding this matter?

Responding to this 92% of the people participating in the survey supported the idea and said there should be an investigation on this matter, while 8% disagreed and said there is no need of an investigation.
