Official reference against Altaf being sent to Britain: Nisar

KARACHI: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar on Wednesday visited Karachi and on the occasion said that an official reference against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain will be sent to the British government.

The federal interior minister was talking to media personnel at the Governor House after a meeting with Governor Sindh Ishratul Ebad.

He said that Karachi cannot be held hostage over one person’s phone call. “We all are on the same page regarding Karachi’s law and order,” the interior minister stated.

Chaudhry Nisar also said that evidence of violence will be sent to the British government.

The federal interior minister said the security of the media houses should be improved. He was referring to the recent unrest in the city in which MQM protesters tried to wreak havoc in Karachi following an inflammatory speech by the MQM chief inciting party workers to attack media houses.

Earlier in his meeting with the governor Sindh, the federal minister expressed determination that those elements who are speaking against the country would be strictly dealt with.

During the meeting, Nisar said that strict measures would be taken against those creating law and order problems.

Upon which, Governor Sindh Ebad said that peace in the city would be maintained at all costs.

Those taking law into their hands would be dealt with according to law, he said, adding that Karachi’s peace is the peace of Pakistan.

Later on, Chaudhry Nisar held a press conference at the Governor House.

During the press conference, he lauded the role of media during Karachi’s recent riots and said that Pakistan media despite being attacked conveyed the real message to the world.

He said that it seemed during the unrest that the city was again being held hostage.

“MQM will remain one or become two or three, we will come to know soon,” he said referring to Farooq Sattar’s recent takeover of the party leadership.

The federal minister said that certain hidden elements don’t want normal situation to prevail in Karachi.

The minister said that Chief Minister Sind Murad Ali Shah played the role of a good administrator and responded quickly to the situation.

The federal interior minister, during his speech, also critcised the MQM chief.

He said that a leader insulted the country which gave him respect, adding, that people heard worst comments about Pakistan from a leader.

The interior minister said that Urdu-speaking people are a patriotic faction of the country.

In the recent riots in Karachi, one person succumbed to his injuries while several others were wounded.
