ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) additional general secretary Saifullah Niazi resigned from his post due to differences with PTI leader Jahangir Tareen, sources told Geo News on Sunday.

According to reports, Saifullah Niazi had power conflicts with Jahangir Tareen and did not agree with the policy of preferring favourite party workers over veteran workers for posts within the party.

Sources within PTI had said yesterday that Saifullah Niazi had forwarded his resignation to party chairman Imran Khan. A PTI spokesperson had confirmed that Niazi had stepped down from the party post but the resignation had not been accepted yet.

Saifullah Niazi is counted among senior PTI leaders and one of the confidantes of the party chief.

He also headed the PTI administrative committee for the Islamabad sit-in in 2014.

A number of PTI leaders have resigned in the past due to differences over party policies. Veteran politician Makhdoom Javed Hashmi and Justice (R) Wajihuddin were among the ones who parted ways from the party over its policies.

Earlier today the PTI Youth Wing announced revolt against the party’s Secretary General Jahangir Tareen and said it would start a countrywide campaign against the leader.

The Youth Wing has refused to accept Jahangir Tareen’s decisions in the past. The wing has reportedly printed protest banners against the leader.
