RAHIM YAR KHAN: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday informed his close confidants that an official response on the Panama Papers case would be filed soon in the Supreme Court.

According to the sources privy to developments, in an informal meeting with local party leaders and confidants, PM Nawaz reiterated his formal position on the issue saying that there is a malicious intent behind the campaign against him on Panama Papers as his name has not appeared in the leaks.

He said that although the Supreme Court has sent him the notice, it does not mean he has been summoned and he would wholeheartedly follow the Supreme Court's orders on the issue.

Prime Minister Nawaz said that sit-ins have been detrimental for the country’s economy.

Earlier on Friday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said dialogue with the government ahead of his party’s planned Islamabad sit-in was not possible.

Khan announced that talks would only be held after his party arrived in the federal capital for the sit-in on November 2.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif consulted with constitutional law experts on the Panama Papers case. The Supreme Court issued notices to all parties including the prime minister as it began hearing the five petitions regarding the Panama Papers which have overshadowed political landscape of the country for the last several months.

In a statement, the prime minister has welcomed the decision by the Supreme Court over the Panama Papers, adding that he has faith in the Constitution.
