FC guard, female reporter reach settlement

KARACHI: An out of court agreement has been reached between female journalist Saima Kanwal and the Frontier Constabulary guard who was caught on camera slapping her at a Nadra office located in Liaqatabad.

According to latest reports, both parties have decided to withdraw cases against each other.

Earlier on Saturday, a local court had accepted the pre-arrest bail plea of the FC guard. The pre-arrest bail was set by the court at Rs 50,000.

Journalist Saima Kanwal had registered a case against the FC guard who, while being posted at the Nadra office, had allegedly misbehaved with her before slapping her in the face. The case was registered at the Gulbahar station.

A case against the journalist was also registered by the FC guard for interfering with state matters.

Video footage from social media showed the reporter telling the cameraman to show the face and uniform of the guard, who allegedly misbehaved with her, before he was seen slapping her. The video also showed the journalist pulling the uniform of the guard.

The reporter was shooting a programme about the problems faced by citizens at Nadra registration office.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan took notice of the incident and ordered an investigation.
