KARACHI: A factory fire in SITE area was finally put out by 22 fire brigade engines, chief fire officer Tehseen Ahmed confirmed Monday afternoon.

He said cooling was underway and the garment factory would be cleared within one hour. The fire was caused by chemicals stored in a room inside the factory, he added.

Rescue services earlier declared it a third degree fire. Workers from the factory were safely evacuated, rescue workers said.

In 2012 a factory fire in Baldia Town, SITE area, killed over 250 people and injured 600 in one of the country's worst fire incidents.
