Punjab leaves others behind in good governance

LAHORE: A new survey, conducted by the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (Pildat), reveals that the public perception of good governance about the federal government has improved.

Punjab was rated the highest in governance across nationwide respondents, with 67% approval rating followed by governance of KP at 38%; governance in Balochistan received 26% approval while Sindh was rated the lowest nationwide with 25% approval rating of its governance.

Pildat conducted the public survey about standard of governance and democracy of the federal and provincial governments from Aug 11 to Aug 31, 2016. 3,610 people from 85 districts across the country participated in the survey.

According to the survey results, the federal government got positive rating on 10 out of total 27 points. In 2015, its score was only 6 on the score card. The survey report says that only 35 percent voters are hopeful of any improvement in the performance of the Election Commission of Pakistan. In 2015, this percentage was 38. The countrywide survey results show that people nationwide believe that terrorism is the biggest issue faced by Pakistan.
