KOHAT: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, addressing a public rally in Kohat on Friday, said the opposition is afraid of seeing Pakistan progress because it would render their politics irrelevant.

Alluding to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Prime Minister said Pakistan is well on its way to becoming a developed country which has made the opposition feel insecure about 2018 elections.

Development plans

Vowing to bring change to Kohat and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the Prime Minister announced 40 billion rupees’ worth of gas projects for the city. He also announced construction of a state-of-the-art hospital in Kohat as well as a women’s campus in Kohat University. He added that the government is starting a rail car service from Rawalpindi to Kohat and will soon connect Kohat to Islamabad and Peshawar via highways and the motorway.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who inaugurated gas supply projects for the union councils in Kohat on the occasion, announced 3 billion rupees for the Kohat district council and 1 billion rupees for Tehsil council for the gas projects. He also reiterated his promise to end loadshedding across the country by 2018.

Elaborating on the gas projects, the Prime Minister said that the projects would supply gas to Khushal Garh, Chorlaki, Shahpur, Sherkot, Nusrat khel, Ali Zai and other districts in the city.

The Prime Minister further said that the sick who cannot afford treatment would be treated free of cost from now on.

Highlighting headway in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the premier said the CPEC projects are progressing rapidly and will soon transform the country’s destiny.

“When the projects in Kohat are completed I will come here again and congratulate you all,” the Prime Minister said, to loud applause from the crowd.

'Change'

Taking aim at PTI’s rhetoric for ‘change’ the Prime Minister remarked that, had there been development in the KPK province, there wouldn’t be such a huge crowd at this rally.

“We will bring change to this province. People know that no work has been done in KPK in the past three years,” the Prime Minister said, adding that PML-N would win the 2018 elections and would also be elected to govern KPK in 2018.

Security

About the security situation in the country, the Prime Minister said incidents of terrorism have declined dramatically compared to some years ago.

“The government is doing its best to combat terrorism and improve the security countrywide. We have broken the backbone of the terrorists,” he said.

The Prime Minister extended his congratulations to the police, security forces and the public at large for standing united against terrorism. He added that the government is spending billions on resettling the people of North Waziristan.

He also congratulated senator Abbas Khan Afridi on joining PML-N.
