Slain Fahad Malik’s brother thanks Nisar, judiciary for help in arresting killers

LONDON: British-Pakistani entrepreneur Jawad Sohrab Malik, brother of Barrister Fahad Malik who was cold-bloodedly murdered by a notorious gang of terrorists in Islamabad, has thanked Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan and Pakistan’s superior judiciary for helping the victim family in their campaign for justice.

Jawad Sohrab Malik spoke to Geo News in an interview here about the murder of his brother in the wee hours of August 15 in the heart of the federal capital while he was on his professional duty.

“Full credit goes to Chaudhary Nisar for ensuring that the Islamabad Police and Federal Investigation Agency arrest Raja Arshad and Noman Khokhar for killing my brother who was a law-abiding British-Pakistani professional who helped others and worked to promote the rule of law in Pakistan. Initially, we had no hopes from the police and the system because gang leaders Raja Arshad and Noman Khokhar have the system bought and they have been known as law unto themselves.

"Chaudhary Nisar ordered the police to conclude investigations into the matter and arrest the terrorists but initially junior officials within the police were making the job impossible because they were on the payroll of gangsters. However, a transfer of the investigation by the Minister to honest police officers and efforts by the interior minister Chaudhary Nisar and senior police officials soon showed results. Then the Supreme Court took Suo moto notice and that further helped us in getting the terrorists arrested. There was no hope otherwise. Simply, no hope.”

Fahad Malik was murdered near a police station on Islamabad's posh Margalla Road.

Fahad Malik was called to the police station by his client who wanted him to draft a settlement deed between the two parties. All matters were apparently settled in the police station however plans by the gangsters were underway to strike at Fahad Malik after he would come out of the station and leave for home to be with his family.

"When Fahad moved in his car, Arshad and his cronies blocked the road and made it impossible for Fahad to leave the scene. Using illegal kalashnikov's when Fahad's car came to a halt on Main Margalla Road, Raja Arshad pumped six bullets into my brother’s head and chest and also opened indiscriminate fire on the car in celebration.  He then announced on the spot in front of witnesses that this is what happens to lawyers when they intervene in our matters."

Members belonging to Taji Khokhar and Raja Arshad gangs are known as “triple three” in the capital and that’s demonstrated through their videos and pictures in which these gangsters – including Arshad and Noman - have been seeing posing for pictures with golden kalashnikov's while making these triple three finger gestures to demonstrate who they are. Their expensive luxury cars are also numbered as 333.

But when these influential gangsters killed Fahad Malik they thought they were just taking aim at the usual victim kind who have are at the mercy of the powerful people. Fahad Malik belonged to a well-heeled and renowned business and political family of Pakistan. Fahad Malik qualified as a Barrister from Lincolns Inn London.  He helped his father Sohrab Khan Malik alongside with Jawad Malik and went on to join a multi-million Pounds business empire stretched to London, Pakistan and Dubai. The businesses include real estate development, general trading, information technology and spans through to various other sectors.  His maternal uncle Mian Soomro has served as Governor Sindh, Chairman Senate, Prime Minister and President of Pakistan holding top slots of the power corridors in Pakistan.

Jawad Malik, who himself has studied law from the UK and has a firm grip on the legal side, is campaigning at various levels to ensure that the killers of his brother are punished. Fahad Malik has left behind two children, both under 10 years.

He told Geo News: “Fahad had a choice to live in London and Dubai and have a carefree life but he was a passionate British-Pakistani who loved everything about Pakistan. He wanted to make a difference and making money was never his objective in life. He was always involved in charitable causes and helping people was his passion. He had big dreams, big plans for his motherland. His life was cut short in a terrorist attack. It was on the night between 14th and 15th August when security arrangements for Independence Day celebrations were on high alert but not for the terrorists who roamed around with illegal weapons, displaying openly even in the police station.”

Jawad Malik explains how he faces one difficulty after another due to the loopholes in the system.

He says he has made it his mission in his life to get justice for his brother and defeat the system.

“Especially his children and our society. I owe it to them. I know what I am up against but we as a family have decided we will not budge; we will not make compromises. We are up against a system which belongs to the notorious terrorists but with Allah by our side justice will prevail”, he added.
