Canadian man convicted of sexual assault flees to Pakistan

A Canadian man who has was convicted of sexual assault and the possibility of facing years in prison slipped out of the country and fled to Pakistan.

Two weeks prior to his sentence hearing, 29-year-old Moazzam Tariq flew to Pakistan from Montreal.

Moazzam Tariq was found guilty of sexually assaulting a Toronto woman who was too intoxicated to give her consent.

On Thursday, a local court in Canada was informed that Moazzam had violated terms of his bail and used a second Pakistani passport to fly to Pakistan from Montreal on November 18. He had earlier surrendered his Canadian passport after his conviction by the court.

Canadian media states Moazzam was born in Pakistan and is a permanent resident of Canada.
