From 6am to 10pm: Ban on heavy vehicles in Karachi

KARACHI: Heavy vehicles on city’s highways have been banned from 6am to 10pm, according to traffic police.

The step has been taken to prevent loss of lives during road accidents.

Ten-wheelers, tankers and big trawlers will not be allowed to operate during the specified hours.

The decision was made during a meeting with Karachi Commissioner Ejaz Ahmad Khan, said Traffic DIG Asif Ijaz Sheikh, adding that the ban has been implemented for three months.

However, trucks, dumpers and trawlers being used for official purposes will be issued special stickers by the traffic police and allowed to operate during the mentioned time.

Meanwhile, Sheikh also said that public vehicles have till March 20 to attain a fitness certificate. After March 20, all the public vehicles with no fitness certificate will be confiscated, he added.
