HYDERABAD: The National Accountability Bureau on Saturday apprehended an additional district accounts officer on charges of corruption and recovered 3 kilogram gold as well as local and foreign currency worth millions, officials said.

The arrest was made on the pointation of two under custody suspects, Head Constable Yousuf and his son, Sepoy Arif. They were rounded up two weeks ago, with millions of rupees in cash, 39 tola gold, and 10 cars seized from them.

NAB officials, on the pointation of Yousuf and Arif, rounded up Additional District Accounts Officer Mushtaq Sheikh on Saturday.

Officials recovered 3 kilogram gold, Rs17 million cash, nine cars and 37 thousand Saudi Riyal from residence and farmhouse of the key official of Deputy Commissioner Office.

They further claimed to have traced several other bungalows, farmhouses and agricultural land owned by Mushtaq Sheikh in Hyderabad, Karachi and Hala.

Earlier, when Yousuf and Arif were arrested and their huge wealth was uncovered, then a question arose as to whether a head constable and a sepoy could make such fortune from ill-gotten money alone, or they had some people behind them.

The suspect is being further interrogated about his means to gather such enormous wealth.
