PSL spot-fixing: FIA to review mobile phone apps used by suspended players

ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is seeking the mobile phones of cricketers allegedly involved in spot-fixing during Pakistan Super League 2017, sources told Geo News on Friday.

They said that the mobiles phones of Sharjeel Khan, Muhammad Irfan, Khalid Latif and Shahzeb Hasan are in the possession of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) but the agency needs to investigate few applications used by the players.

Sources said that FIA would write a letter to PCB administration for handing over the mobile phones.

They further said that presenting the phones was necessary while submitting the investigation report in the court.

All four players have been suspended by Pakistan Cricket Board.

On Thursday, FIA had sent notices to cricketers Sharjeel Khan, Nasir Jamshed, Khalid Latif and Muhammad Irfan for their alleged role in spot-fixing.

According to a spokesperson of interior ministry, the cricketers have been asked to appear and record their statement on March 20 and 21.

Sharjeel and Khalid were unceremoniously sent home after the first match of the PSL last month and were later charged in a corruption probe that threatened to undermine the tournament.

Mohammad Irfan continued to play in the tournament. However, he was suspended after the tournament concluded.

If convicted the some of the aforementioned players face life bans for violating the board's anti-corruption code by allegedly meeting a suspicious man linked to an international betting syndicate.
