Three French pupils hurt in London attack

PARIS: Three French pupils on a school trip were among those hurt in Wednesday´s deadly car ramming attack near the British parliament in London.

French foreign ministry spokesman Romain Nadal said three students were hurt in the assault that claimed three lives and left around 20 others injured.

Local officials in the western region of Brittany, where the French students are from, said two of them were in serious condition.

French President Francois Hollande sent a message of "solidarity" and "support" for Britons and Prime Minister Theresa May.

"France, which has been hit so hard in recent times, knows what the British people are suffering today," Hollande said in a statement before news of the French injured emerged.

Later he announced that the families of the three injured French students were being flown to London. 
France Bleu radio in Brittany said around a dozen students were on Westminster Bridge near parliament at the time of the attack.

Local newspaper, Le Telegramme, also said the students were on the bridge when they were hit by the car, quoting another student who said the force of the impact threw one of them onto the bonnet of the vehicle.

An official at their school in the town of Concarneau said families of the pupils, aged around 14, were in contact with the London hospital where they were being treated.

They were part of a group of 92 or 93 students, the school official said.

 French Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve tweeted: "Solidarity with our British friends, horribly attacked, full support for the injured French students, their families and their friends."
