Gotcha! Girl swipes off Pope’s hat on first meeting

Little Estella Westrick made us all swoon with love when she very smoothly pulled at and grabbed Pope Francis’ zucchetto as she met him for the very first time.

The 3-year-old resident of Atlanta, garbed in an adorable, bright pink colour, met the pontiff on her visit to Rome to meet Mountain Butorac – her godfather. It was when one of the Papal Gentlemen helped lift Estella to the Pope’s face level so he could kiss her cheek that the tiny tyke reached for his skullcap.

Hearty laughs erupted all around, as everyone, even the Pope and his officials, took a moment to realise how innocently-funny this unexpected moment was.

“Right before she went up she was a little nervous. Then she stole his hat. It was hilarious. Everyone was laughing, including the Pope.” Butorac said, according to CNN.

Pope Francis – the Roman Catholic Church’s 266th Pope – has gained tonnes of admirers around the world, regardless of religion or nationality, due to his accepting views and charming behaviour.
