Earthquake jolts Swat, surrounding areas

SWAT: Earthquake tremors were felt in Swat and its surrounding areas on Thursday.

US Seismological Centre measured the earthquake at 4.2 Richter Scale at a depth of 180 kilometre. The earthquake’s epicenter was Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region, as per the US Seismological Centre.

Earthquake also jolted parts of Swabi and its surrounding areas on March 21. Moreover, various cities in the upper parts of the country were jolted by earthquake tremors on February 28, this year.

Tremors were felt in Islamabad, Peshawar, Swat, FATA, Chitral, Khyber Agency and various others parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 6.0. The earthquake struck at a depth of 10 kilometre and its epicentre was a bordering region of Tajikistan.

Earlier this year in January, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province along with Punjab was hit by a 4.2 Richter scale earthquake. Though no casualties were reported, it forced frenzied locals out of their homes.
