Sima Kamil becomes first female CEO and president of major Pakistan bank

KARACHI: Sima Kamil has been appointed as the first female chief executive officer and president of one of the largest banks of the country. 

The decision came during a board of directors meeting held on March 24, stated a notification by the United Bank Limited, among the top five banks of the country.

According to a letter written to Pakistan Stock Exchange by the bank, the appointment of Kamil by the bank's board of directors has accorded for her appointment as the president and CEO.

At present Kamil is serving as the deputy CEO of the bank. However, she will take up her new role starting June 1.

Kamil was preceded by Wajahat Husain during whose tenure UBL was rated as the 'Best Bank' and its rating approved to AAA.

Kamil has had over 25 years of experience in the banking industry, formerly heading branch banking at the Habib Bank Limited.
