Will ensure the best deal for UK post-Brexit, says MP Afzal Khan

BRUSSELS: Member of European Parliament Afzal Khan while talking to Geo News said that he respects Britain’s decision to separate from the European Union although he voted against it.

Khan is a Labour MP from the north-west of England as well as the Vice Chairman of Defence and Security standing committee of the European Parliament.

He is also the elected representative for the Muslim comities in Europe in the Socialist and Democrats (S&D) group. The S&D is the second-largest group in the European parliament

“Today marks the beginning of important negotiations as the UK prepares to leave the EU. I supported remain but the British people made the decision to leave the European Union and I respect that decision. My job now, and the job of the Labour Party, is to make sure we get the best deal for Manchester, our region and the country,” said Khan commenting on the triggering of Article 50 by British Prime Minister Theresa May on March 29.

He said that he is determined to use his experience to ensure changes in the aftermath of Brexit work for the betterment of the people of Manchester. Protection for jobs and living standards is my priority, the MP said.

“Labour has set clear red lines of full access to the European market and rights at work. I will be playing my part to hold the government accountable for the people of Manchester every step of the way,” Afzal said.

Prime Minister Theresa May on Wednesday filed the formal Brexit documents, triggering the country’s two-year exit process from the EU.
