Sindh cabinet approves removal of IG Sindh AD Khawaja

KARACHI: Sindh Cabinet on Wednesday gave approval for the removal of Inspector General of Police Sindh AD Khawaja, sources informed.

According to sources, a session of the Sindh Cabinet was held under Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah.

In the session, the provincial cabinet gave approval for Sardar Abdul Majeed assuming the office of IG Sindh, sources said.

Sources added that the services of AD Khawaja will be transferred to the centre.

Earlier on Monday, the Sindh High Court (SHC) had suspended a notification issued by the Sindh government that replaced AD Khawaja with Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti as the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The SHC, during the hearing, had said that the IG Sindh Khawaja would continue to serve until April 6. The court also said that Khawaja could not be removed without prior approval from the Sindh Cabinet.

The SHC on Thursday will likely pass a judgment regarding Khawaja's services.

Last week, Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti took charge as the acting IGP Sindh after the provincial government's surrendered AD Khawaja's services to the federal government.

Khawaja was appointed as the IGP on March 13, 2016.

This wasn’t the first time the IGP Sindh was made to leave his office. The provincial government sent the police chief packing only three months after an attempt to send him on forced leave was made.
