Hundreds stranded as heavy traffic jam continues on Khi-Hyd motorway

KARACHI: The Karachi-Hyderabad motorway remained clogged all through Sunday morning as heavy traffic jam continued since Saturday night, Geo News reported.

Traffic on the Karachi-Hyderabad motorway became choked after a trailer broke down near Kathore last night, resulting in hundreds of vehicles being stranded. Some of the traffic, as a result, was diverted onto the opposite track (Hyd-Khi), resulting in both tracks being clogged due to traffic plying wrong way.

The situation worsened as construction work is underway at various sections of the motorway. According to the motorway police, vehicles plying wrong way intensified the jam.

Ambulances too were stuck on the roads until the motorway police came to their rescue.

Several stranded vehicles ran out of fuel, while passengers had to experience severe inconvenience as they were left without access to food, water and other facilities.

A motorway spokesperson claimed earlier on Sunday morning that the motorway would be cleared in approximately two hours; however, several hours later the motorway continues to remain blocked.

Motorway police has assured efforts are underway to clear the routes.
