Four wounded in Karachi aerial firing, over 50 suspects held

KARACHI: At least four people were injured in the wake of aerial firing and fireworks display near in Karachi late Thursday, after which police apprehended five suspects involved in the incident, officials told Geo News.

The incident occurred near Five Star Chowrangi after which police apprehended five affiliates of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in the centre. The arrested party affiliates included two local office-bearers, Afsar Ali Khan and Khalid Mumtaz, said SP Gulberg Bashir Brohi.

Mumtaz has formerly been a general secretary of the Karachi Bar Association.

'Target killer' among three held

Nazimabad police nabbed a suspected target killer, Wasim alias Boss, among two suspects. Police claimed to have seized a handgun, a stolen motorbike and mobile phones from the suspect, who reportedly confessed to his involvement in target killing in Surjani Town.

The other suspect, Noman, was said to be involved in stealing car parts.

The law enforcers, after an exchange of fire in Mawach Goth, rounded up a gangster, Arif, affiliated with Bahadur PMT group along with weapons. Officials said his accomplices Salman and Joji managed to flee away.

Search operations

On the other hand, 55 suspected people were held during house-to-house searches in Khamisu Goth in New Karachi and Gulberg's DT Chowk, Roshan Bagh, Power Chowrangi areas, according to SP Bashir Brohi.

The official said the particulars of arrested individuals were being verified, along with checking of any criminal record of them with various police stations.
