Top civil, military leadership discusses issues of national security

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of top civil and military leaders to discuss various national security issues was held on Wednesday at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Participants of the high-level meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, discussed the case of Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav, which is ongoing in the International Court of Justice, as well as the premier’s recent visit to Riyadh for a security summit, among other national security issues.

The attendants of the meeting raised the issue of atrocities under the Indian forces in the occupied Kashmir.

The meeting reiterated the resolve that the diplomatic and moral support of the Kashmiris would continue.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Defence Minister Khwaja Asif and Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz attended the meeting. 

Those in attendance from the armed forces include Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Naval Chief Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, and the directors general of ISI, Frontier Works Organisation and military intelligence.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the army chief and prime minister also held a one-on-one meeting where issues of national security were discussed.  

Sources said the premier was briefed by the army chief on the progress of Operation Raddul Fasaad.
