SECP chief to appear before Panama JIT on Friday: sources

ISLAMABAD: The head of the Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Zafar Hijazi, will be appearing before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Panama case on Friday.

The JIT is investigating the prime minister's family’s global financial dealings in light of the Supreme Court's April 20 judgment.

Sources revealed that the JIT sent notices to the SECP chief for personal appearance to apprise the probe body as to the measures undertaken in the investigation so far.

Sources added that the SECP chief will also be bringing with him all relevant records and documents related to the Panama case.

JIT sends second letter to Qatar’s Al-Thani family

The JIT wrote a second letter to Qatar’s Al-Thani family, giving them three options to record their statements.

The first option mentioned that two members would leave for Qatar to record the statements in relation to the probe.

The second option was to send a written response to aid the investigation.

According to the third option, a statement through video link can also be shared by the Qatari family.

On Tuesday, the JIT questioned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz and National Bank of Pakistan President Saeed Ahmad for around four and twelve hours respectively.

The JIT, headed by Federal Investigation Agency Additional Director Wajid Zia, included members from SECP, State Bank of Pakistan, National Accountability Bureau, Military Intelligence and Inter Services Intelligence.
